Background:

An award winning artist from the southeast, James Few has received national recognition for his light filled paintings. Bold, vivid color, skillful draftsmanship, strong composition, and a sensitive creation of mood are all marks of his traditional realistic style.

His paintings have been exhibited in national juried shows every year since 1988. National juried exhibits include group shows in New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, Sacramento, Oakland, San Diego, Wichita KS, Scottsdale AZ, Sedona AZ, Milwaukee WI, Pensacola, FL and Charlotte NC.

Listed in Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, he is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, The Knickerbocker Artists-USA, The Degas Pastel Society and the American Artist's Professional League. He is also a contributing artist in the US Air Force Art Program, and a founding member of the Pastel Society of North Florida.

James was born in South Carolina, and lives on the Florida gulf coast. Truly a renaissance man -- he is not only an artist, a former USAF fighter pilot, a civilian flight instructor, a decorated Vietnam veteran, and an electrical engineer, with an MBA from the University of Chicago, he was also the principal oboist of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Artist's Statement:

·  ". . . .I have found that my most successful paintings are those that originated from a mental image. In the beginning, even though I almost always do preliminary sketches and color studies, I may not have a fully developed idea or composition, but I like to have a good notion of where I am going with it. Sometimes a painting takes its own direction and may not turn out as I originally imagined, but if it begins in my mind's eye, it is more often successful . . . ." ". . . . If there is a common thread throughout my work it is my fascination with the subtle beauty of light. It is something I try to express in every painting I do . . . ."
