What is PSNF?
The Pastel Society of North Florida (PSNF) is a nonprofit, tax exempt, organization and is a member of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Organized in 1988, PSNF is an association of artists who work in the traditional pastel medium and who are intent on increasing public awareness and acceptance of pastel as a serious painting medium. We provide opportunities for members to exhibit in both juried and non-juried all pastel shows, and to attend workshops conducted by master pastelists. It was the first art organization in Northwest Florida to sponsor national and local juried exhibitions exclusively for pastel artists. It is also the first pastel organization to feature a site on the World Wide Web.
Who can join?
The membership is not limited to professionals. Beginners, art students, talented amateurs, and anyone interested in the traditional pastel medium are welcome. A major goal is to provide opportunities for all to grow. There is no slide screening required to become a member.
GOALS
The goals of the PSNF are as follows:
- Set elevated artistic standards and encourage the use of Pastel.
- Focus attention on the renaissance of Pastel and educate the public regarding the beauty, versatility and permanence of the medium.
- Promote workshops and demonstrations as a part of this education process.
- Unite outstanding pastelists through membership in the society.
- Encourage young talent.
- Provide opportunities for artistic growth and enrichment for both student and professional members.
- Hold a biennial membership show
- Organize and promote a biennial, national, juried, All Pastel, competition with qualified jurors and judges.

Annual workshops are conducted by notable pastel artists and are sometimes held in conjunction with juried exhibits. The exhibits are either "members only" competitons or national open exhibits in alternating years. Local pastel classes are available all year. The next exhibit is the 2008 Biennial National Open competition scheduled for September 2008. See Pastels 2008 Prospectus for information on exhibit and workshop.
