The Pub

The Pub, pastel, 18x24 in.
(collection of the artist)

The Pub has never been rejected by a jury. It has been one of Mr. Few's most sucessful paintings: As a Knickerbocker "Signature Artist," James is one of only 300 living artists, that have been selected to use "KA" behind a signature on a piece of art. Signature membership is by invitation only, based on the merits of the artist's work and their record of accomplishment on a national scale. However, some exhibiting artists, are elected to Signature Membership from the floor of the exhibition, based entirely on the strength of their work. In the 49 year history of Knickerbocker, only 61 artist have been granted this honor. In 1989, at the 39th exhibit, Mr. Few was one of those so honored -- for The Pub.

Founded in 1947, Knickerbocker Artists-USA, is the youngest of the mainline New York societies. It is a 501-C(3) charitable organization whose purpose is to promote excellence in visual expression. There are currently 271 active Signature Members, and 1062 Associate Members. Knickerbocker was the first mainline art society to defect from New York City. This occured in 1992. The year 1997 marks it's 45th open competition, designed to showcase gifted artists to the world. It imposes no artistic dogma and is international in scope.

Addendum : Sadly, this organization is no more. Because of poor management, it went bankrupt in 1997 after almost 50 years.
